A Word About Building Codes

Most of the components of a house are concealed and a full building code inspection is beyond the scope of any visual inspection.

Building Codes are also changing and evolving and there is generally no regulation that require older homes be “brought up to code”, unless there is renovation work to be performed.

But, and this is a big BUT, the building codes are legal douments that specify absolute minimum standards for construction.

In our opinion, home inspectors should be guided by these standards where building systems are visible and within the context of the age of the building.
